Numbers that Tell the Story of the 2022 Midterms

Comparing other races

Here is a very brief summary of important numbers and efforts from 2022:

  • Turnout for the 2022 midterm was in line with historical low levels of turnout for midterm elections; not much different than 2014 or previous midterms. In 2018, "the Blue Wave" turnout was an anomaly but shows that energized voters do turn out.

  • Turnout always increases in a presidential election year, so 2024 is that much more important. The next BIG opportunity is just around the corner!

  • In 2022, voter turnout in Congressional District 22 (CD 22) was only 34.04% of registered voters. Statewide turnout was only 50.8%, 14% below 2018.

  • CD 22 Democratic candidate Rudy Salas won 56.3% of the vote in Kern County, where CVM funded two of our groups (DG and DHAF) in our fall campaign.

  • Incumbency mattered. All congressional incumbents in California won their races. In 2024, Rudy Salas, Democrat will be running against David Valadao, Republican again.

  • Redistricting slowed down the ground game and greatly impacted CD 22 so we have new demographics to consider.
    - Fresno County was removed from the district.
    - Tulare County’s share of CD 22 grew to 25%.
    - Kern County is now 63.5% of the district.
    - Kings County is 11.5%.
